Submitting an Entry

Since the form isn't up yet, e-mail is the only way to enter. Put "TU Entry" in the subject header, followed by the title and (fic) OR (pic). [Ex. TU Entry "Ghoulish Delight" (fic)] Send only ONE entry per e-mail. Make sure you provide ALL essential information in a text (only .txt please) file attatched to the e-mail. ATTACH or LINK to the entry. Fics written directly into the message body of the e-mail will NOT be accepted. Do NOT imbed images into the email, either. If linking to an entry, make sure the link works BEFORE sending it. If it's to a pic, make sure the host allows direct links. I cannot stress this enough. If we cannot get to the entry, we will not be able accept it. Send entries to: obbie@terrorunknown.com

Deadline

The entry deadline is set for August 31st. Last change, I swear! ^^;;<

Entry Info

The following info is needed for EVERY entry. (Don't assume we already know it from previous entries.)

Title:
Author/Artist:
E-mail:
Site:
Fandom:
Category:
Type:
Rating:
Pairing:
Warnings:
Disclaimer:
Summary:
Notes:

Title is, of course, referring to the name of the entry.
Author/Aritist is your name or handle (pen name). For a pic, use Artist, and for a fic, use Author. Please don't use Author/Artist. ^^;; Note: If you change the pen name you entered under TELL US!!! Otherwise, you might get disqualified.
E-mail must be a working address. This is how we can get ahold of you and how people can give you feedback. Note: If it changes, let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Otherwise, you could get disqualified if we can't contact you.
Site is the address to your personal website OR where your entry is archived. People might want to see some more of your work. ^_~ This is optional, but if you do supply one, I might add it to the links page. (if it's your own site, and not someone else's)
Fandom indicates which series your fan piece is based on. Leave blank or off if it's an original piece.
Category lists which category, or categories, you wish to enter the piece in. Do not include the overall/best of categories, they are entered in those (that they qualify for) automatically. ^^ Note: If any entry does not have at least one category listed, it will be disqualified. Also, putting "ART" for a pic does NOT count! There is more than one art category and you must specify which one(s) you want to enter in.
Type is referring to what kind of entry this is. In other words, whether it's fanwork or original. That's all. ^_~
Rating is just that. The rating for your piece. ^_~Note: Do NOT leave off the rating just because you aren't sure of what to rate it! If nothing else, just use the highest rating it might be. Entries without ratings will NOT be accepted!
Pairing is where you list the pairing(s) in your entry. Put "None" or "N/A" if there is none. If there is and you want it to be kept a secret, just say so. But DON'T let us think there isn't any. Use full names instead of abbreviations or nicknames/numbers. If you are not familiar with a characters last/family name or just don't know how to spell it, you can leave it off or use an initial. (Ex. Yuuske U. from Yu Yu Hakusho or Serena from Sailor Moon or Dee from Fake) Don't, however, do the reverse. Like G. Son/Son G. in Dragonball Z. Which G is it? Goku? Gohan? Goten? Gohan Sr.? There's no telling without reading the fic. So be specific, okies? ^_~
Warnings . . . Use them. Even if it's listed in the category section. If you want to leave something off for a surprise ending, put "surprise ending". Be considerate. There are somethings some people want to avoid, even if they can stand, even like, others. Also, list pairing types (i.e. yaoi, yuri, het, slash, femslash). Some people aren't familiar with some names/fandoms. ^_~
Disclaimer Go here for more info and examples. Disclaimers are used to denote what/who doesn't belong to you, but also what does. (I claim this, but disclaim those) For original works, use this spot to give copyright info.
Summary should be brief and concise. Just tell us a little about what it's about. Skip this for pics.
Notes are optional. If you want to add a statement or a little insight to your entry, then this is where you put it. Try to keep it as short as possible. ^_~

Example of Entry info:

Title: Dante's Familiar
Author: Kitty Kat
E-mail: meow@litterbox.net
Site: www.kittykat.com
Fandom: Digimon
Category: Sick Puppy, Lost Souls, Shadows of Dread
Type: Fanfic
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Kaiser/Ken I. x Daisuke Motomiya, OC x Ken I.
Warnings: Yaoi, rape/ncs, lime, AU, death
Disclaimer: Digimon and it's characters do not belong to me, but Dante Delreaux does.
Summary: Years after the series ends, the Kaiser resurfaces in Ken's personality.
Notes: I plead insanity. ^^;;

(Note: The above information is false. I made it up just for example.)

Number of Entries

You can enter up to six fics and/or pics. Why the limit? Let's just say that some people are prolific and I want to give everyone a fair chance. ^_~ Each entry can only be entered in up to three different categories, so choose wisely. The minimum is one category. This does not include the overall/best of categories, however. ^^
Top

Previous Entries

Previous winning entries CANNOT be re-entered. This includes 2nd and 3rd placed entries. Sorry. ^^;; Other previous entries can be re-entered BUT only if they have be re-done (re-written, etc.) AND only after one year (not literal) grace period. (i.e. if entered 1st time in 2002 contest and hadn't placed, can be entered again in 2004 contest or later if re-done) This gives time for new work to make an appearance and time for the first version to fade in our memories. ^_~

Forbidden Content

Ah, yes. Forbidden Content. Some things can be accepted IF handled the right way, BUT if you have doubts, check with someone else first. Hell, contact one of US even! Fics can be tricky when it comes to FC. If you need one of us to make a ruling on the content of a fic, give us a semi-detailed summary so we can get the gist of the fic. DON'T send the fic UNLESS we ask for it. The following are not allowed: sap, happy stuff, humor (other than dark, sick, and/or sadistic), fluff, romance, happy endings, "luv", or anything that makes you go "Awwww!" or smile (other than sadistically). Also, sexual content in PICS is not allowed. Nudity is allowed, but to an extent. PWPs are allowed, but ONLY if handled in the right manner. Remember, if in doubt, ask! ^_~

Script Style Fics

Are script style fics allowed? No. HELL no! They are difficult to read and are quite inflexible as far as creativity goes. The same goes for IM chat fics. *shudder* Now, I don't mind if there is IM chat within the fic, as long as it's called for Like when two, or more characters are chatting and you want to use the same formatting to set the mood, sort to speak. However, fics written in IM's aren't allowed.

Plagarism

If it is found that someone has entered plagarized work, that person's entries will all be removed and banned from entering again in the future. We will also put up a notice stating what has happened and appologizing for not catching it sooner. If you have come across an entry that you believe has been plagarized, FIRST contact the Plagarism Police Patrol. If they are not able to help, THEN contact us with the details and we'll do what we can to determine if it's valid and who's at fault. If we cannot determine guilt one way or the other, we will either remove the entry, leaving a note stating why, or leave it till further proof has been found/given, depending on the case. However, if the PPP can help, do ask them to send us their verdict as well so we know it is from them and not a possible forgery. We want to be fair to everyone involved and keep this site plagarism free.

Disclaimers and Copyrights

Every entry must have a disclaimer! Fanworks should always have a disclaimer, reguardless of entering, same for original works and copyright info. Fics should have them somewhere within the fic, either before or after. Pics should (at least) include them in the entry info. Fanworks have to disclaim owning the fandom they are working in and originals should claim what is theirs (i.e. copyright info) and disclaim what isn't. Likewise, all original works should have copyright info ANYWAY. Pics, for example, should have this ON the image somewhere. (something like © 2002 Bob Smith or even copyright(ed) © 1999 Angela B. Smith, etc.) It is also a good idea for fics to have "by (your name here)" after the tile within the document, as well as the copyright info at the bottom (or wherever you decide to put it ^^) It helps to establish ownership. ^_~

Examples:

Disclaimer: Gundam Wing and it's characters do not belong to me. Mary Beth, however, does belong to me.
(Note: With disclaimers, you might want to add who the series you are borrowing from does belong to, but if you don't know, this should suffice.)

Disclaimer: Gravitation does not belong to me, nor do any of the characters. I'm just borrowing them.

Copyright Info: Ryo Smith and Terry Ito are copyright © 2002 Amanda Clay.

Copyright Info: Copyrighted © 2003 Daniel Curtis. All rights reserved.
(Note: You can, if you prefer, leave off "copyright info:" ^^)

A you can see, it's not that difficult. ^^

Archival

All entries will be archived here UNLESS specifically requested not to be. If you wish for you entry to not be on the site, not only do you have to make the request directly to me, but you have to give me a link leading to a site where it/they can be found. I will not direct link fics or pics, so I will need a link to the homepage and possibly directions if it's/they're not easy to find from there. The request will also have to be made BEFORE the deadline and ideally, right after entering. However, if the site goes down and I can't contact you AND you haven't contacted me about the situation or given an alternate link, I will have no choice but to archive the entry (if it's sometime after the contest is over). (This is why I don't direct link) Winning entries, however, will HAVE to be archived. No if's, and's, or but's about it. If this is unacceptable to you, DO NOT SUBMIT ANYTHING! I do NOT want to receive angry letters demanding I take off their entries. Rule of thumb: if you don't want it here, take it elsewhere. However, if later you realize you do not want your work archived here, and it isn't a winner, I will take it down if provided with a link and if you are CIVIL. You can have your entry removed from the contest anytime BEFORE the deadline and thus, competely removed from the site. No muss, no fuss.

Ammendum: Okay, I *will* direct link fics if asked, but only if they are on a stable server that doesn't "time out", like geocities. ( don't even ask about linking to fic archival sites, it would be rude, not to mention unreliable) I still won't direct link pics no matter what, though. Unless, of course, you've bought TU space, then it's all the same to me. ^_~

Prizes

Prizes are mailed out after the names and addresses of the winners are collected. Winner names and adresses are kept confidential and will never be sold to third parties. (or fourth or fifth, etc.) International addresses shouldn't be a problem, but it will take longer for prizes to get to where they are going. We also have no objections to winners paying for the shipping and handling for their prizes, but we are not asking for them to, either. ^_~

Judging

Polls, polls, polls, polls, polls, and more polls! Member polls at that. Wanna vote? Sign up for membership, it's FREE! ^^ Fic polls will not list author names and any author info will be removed from the entries for the duration of the voting period. After voting is complete, names and author info will be returned and all credit given. Art polls will not list artist names, but we will not remove any signatures in the pic. After voting is complete, all credit will be given. We do this to be fair to all contestants. By listing names in the polls, some people may just vote for their favorite author or artitst without giving all entries a chance. This way, they won't know who did what until voting is over. (Except with noticeably familiar work, esspecially in art ^^;;) We may even resort to using numbers instead of titles since none of the entries have to be new. Then it would all be a shot in the dark! ^_~ Polls will (should) be open September 1st and will (God willing ^^;;) conclude on October 31st.

Volunteering

If you want to volunteer your time and services, just e-mail me and tell me what you want to do. ^^ I'll need moderators for the forum when it's up, and judges, but that will be a while. I could always use help HTML-ing fics and can use some scripting help. (the form, the polls, etc.) And, of course, money! ^_~ Any help is welcome. ^^

Time

At the sound of the beep, the time will be exactly . . . Okay, wrong time. ^^;; I should probably change that to "schedule" since I have settled on one. Starting next year, the set schedule will be contest opens on Jan. 1st, entry deadline Aug. 31st, polls open Sept. 1st, polls close Oct. 31st, winners announced Nov. 1st, archive updated and other administrative changes finished by Dec. 31st. That's the plan, anyway. Circumstances may prevent things from happening on those exact dates, but they should still be fairly accurate. ^^

Changes

Changes are inevitable. There's no getting around it. So! If you want to be kept up to date, I suggest ya join the TU mailing list (it takes a bit of time for the page to load) or, at least, the updates mailing list. If you have any changes, such as change in e-mail address, web site, etc., just contact us and we will make the changes as soon as possible. ^^
